Making a Difference in Our Communities
Building Confidence
After Eric saw the movie “The Matrix” he knew exactly what he wanted to do in life... build worlds using numbers. After moving to NYC from China, Eric enrolled at Bronx Community College to pursue a degree in Computer Sciences. His future goals include earning a B.A. and M.S., working as a programmer Google or Facebook, and ultimately owning his own business. When asked how his new suit made him feel.... he replied with a huge smile “I feel like a 10!”
Supporting Families
Miguel came to us from STRIVE, Strong Fathers Stronger Families. He recently participated in the Fatherhood program, developing essential co-parenting skills. After obtaining his OSHA license, Miguel’s priorities are finding a stable job, working toward his GED and eventually enrolling in college. With our help and guidance from STRIVE, he is taking the important steps toward a better future. Miguel loves spending active time outdoors with his 4-year-old and hopes to to share his love of football as his son gets older.
Bridging Program Gaps
Khari moved to NYC five years ago to live with his grandmother. After graduating from college with a degree in Computer Sciences, he is now pursuing a degree in Nutritional Sciences. Khari knows nutritional literacy and a healthy diet are major factors in a thriving community and feels he can make the biggest impact working in a hospital setting. He is a participant of Phipps Neighborhood—a nonprofit that provides career programs and community resources to youth in low income neighborhoods.
Investing in Veterans
Diego is a 35-year-old Veteran who grew up in Brooklyn. He is a software developer who used his experiences and struggles as motivation to launch a non-profit organization to provide support for other Veterans. In his free time, he likes going on adventures, working on a Veterans memoir and restoring vintage muscle cars.
